Get Involved

One of the best ways you can get involved with Heart-J Center is to volunteer! Over the years, Heart-J Center has been tremendously fortunate to have worked with many wonderful volunteers who have been invaluable in helping HJC grow — and as we look to an exciting future of expanded retreat and workshop offerings, we need you even more! Interested in joining us?

Be a Heart-J Volunteer

Being a Heart-J volunteer, you can cover plenty of ground! Depending on your interests, you can help with:

• Assisting with school environmental field trips
• Building and maintaining trails
• Providing services, such as marketing, grant research, program organization and assistance

Volunteering at HJC makes for impactful service learning opportunities for groups and organizations, and a great way for young people looking to build a track record of community engagement for their resumes.

Spotlight on Outdoor Education

Heart-J Center outdoor education field trips give school kids the chance to thrive outside the classroom. Students explore geology, river ecology, wildlife habitat, team building, horses, watercolor, nature journaling and more. Ranging from elementary to high school grades, kids are at the perfect age to form or strengthen their connection to nature, while having hands-on experiences on a wide range of natural history subjects. Some kids who visit the Ranch with their class have never been in nature before -- can you imagine the impact?

Our school group visits often bring a lot of students, and we rely on our volunteer corps to help teach them fundamentals of environmental science. Kids also spend time hiking and working together on the Challenge Course, so if you're not an expert in river ecology or geology, don't worry! We can always use your help.

The Heart J Center was an amazing experience for our 5th-grade students. 87% of our students live in poverty and 83% are part of a minority demographic, including refugee students. This was the first time some of our students had left Greeley. Many of our students have parents who have multiple jobs or do not have transportation to give their children opportunities to experience Colorado nature. This field trip made that possible for them and they learned a great amount, while also enjoying the outdoors and having an experience they'll never forget.
