Sylvan Dale provides a vibrant laboratory for a wide range of academic subjects. Heart J Center welcomes faculty and students for field trips, research projects, and extended study for block-style courses. Programs are customized in partnership with faculty and provide valuable hands-on experiences for students and visiting scholars.
Recent program examples include:
Colorado State University, Center for Protected Areas Management visits Sylvan Dale each fall to kick off a two-week tour of the West with visiting conservation professionals from around the world. Heart J Center provides a half-day examination of land conservation techniques, public-private partnerships in the Western US, tourism and guest ranching, and other topics of interest to the group.
Geology Departments from Colorado State, University of Northern Colorado, Colorado College, Front Range Community College who come to Sylvan Dale annually to view the Green Ridge/Eagle Ridge Overthrust Fault.
University of Northern Colorado Ecology Department has an annual four-day camping trip and research expedition for the summer ecology class with opportunities to study rodents and bats, and to explore the Ranch's foothills and riparian ecosystems.
Art students from Hastings College (Nebraska) spent a week of January Term learning about the intersection of Art and Science from Resident Naturalist Dr. Dave Armstrong. This course combined museum field trips, art studio sessions, lectures, guest speakers, and outdoor field excursions.
